Rozenia Cunningham
Rozenia Cunningham is a dedicated Educator, Art Specialist, professional artist, illustrator, and children's author. Her artistic journey began in childhood at the Cleveland School of the Arts and Karamu, flourishing through her studies at Central State University, Notre Dame, and Cuyahoga Community College. As the founder of "Art It Yourself," Rozenia passionately teaches and inspires children and adults through art classes and summer camps, making the artmaking process accessible and enjoyable for everyone.
A canvas of possibilities
Rozenia's artwork explores the unlimited views of landscapes, nature, and people, ranging from realistic depictions to captivating abstracts. Her studio is a playground of diverse mediums and techniques, utilizing acrylic and watercolor paints, an assortment of pencils, oil pastels, charcoal, and fun scraps. Her mixed media and collages are celebrated for their vibrant combination of color, texture, and symbolism. Recently, she has also begun sharing her love for photography, adding another dimension to her artistic repertoire. Her work has been exhibited in local cities, earning awards in both acrylic and mixed media categories.
Art, therapy, and connection
For Rozenia, artmaking is a personal expression with a touch of therapy, fostering connection to all our senses and to people. "You define your own method and level of creativity and what makes you smile. Who’s the real judge?" This philosophy echoes the profound words of Jacob Lawrence: "Humanism" is to be human, to think, to analyze, and to probe. To respond and to be stimulated by all living things - beasts, fowl, and fishes. To respond through touch, sight, smell, and sound to all things in nature - both organic and inorganic - to colors, shapes, and textures - to not only look at a blade of grass but to really see a blade of grass. These things, to me, are what life and living are all about. I would call it "Humanism." We invite you to explore Rozenia's work and find your own connection to the world of art.
